This site is dedicated to the memory of Jan Barnett.

In memory of Jan, my beautiful and loving wife. Our loving mother, daughter, sister and grandmother.

Her elegance, style and unconditional love made an everlasting impression on all of us.

The first presentation of MND for Jan was in March 2014 when we were walking down Oxford Street, London she experienced her right foot slapping on the pavement. We were told later on after the MND was diagnosed and advanced dramatically that drop foot is one of the tell tale signs of MND. However, we were assured that Jan did not have MND by two different consultants. Jan then suffered an unnecessary operation to release what was claimed to be a trapped nerve in the back of her knee to cure the drop foot. This had absolutely no effect whatsoever, but she came out of hospital slightly weaker.

Jan then underwent five separate treatments of IVIG over 5 days one month apart, The first under Omar Malik at The Clemantine Churchill was abandoned due to her reactions to the particular drug, a second slower delivery of the drug worked but she came out of the treatment even weaker.

The next consultant was Professor Michael Hanna from the National Neurological Hospital in Queen Square, Holborn. He was referred my Marko Sinnissi as the top man and who treated Jan at the Wellington Hospital. At this time we still had hope that the illness and deterioration would come under control. Jan continued to have a host of tests, scans, painful and intrusive electronic nerve tests and then two or three lumber punctures. Finally, the last course consisting of four five day IVIG treatments four weeks apart were given, none of which made her any better. Jan actually came out of hospital each time weaker than before.

We were dropped the bomb shell on the 17th April 15 that there was no other treatment available and that the diagnosis was MND of the lower body. What that meant was it started lower down the body and worked its was up Jan's body until she lost the use of her legs, hands arms, neck and eventually her speech and swallowing until Jan succumbed to the disease on the 29th December 2015 with my daughter and I at her bedside at home.

Throughout the illness Jan lived with me in the comfort of her home in familiar surroundings where I could ensure she received the best possible care, treatment as well as home cooked food whenever she wanted.

I question and want to know answers to why my beautiful wife, who did nothing to excess, was an occasional drinker and non smoker succummed to this disease?
She was just a beautiful, vivacious and elegant lady who loved life and was not ready to leave me, our children, grandchildren and friends.

We love you lots my Darling.

Please all consider giving generously through Jan's Tribute Fund with the MND through the "Make a Donation" button above so that other families will not lose their loved ones to such a diabolical disease. When making the donation please mention specifically that the donation is for the "Jan Barnett Tribute Fund number 561028"

We will update Jan's site with information on how much we raise over the coming months and years.
